​Scholarship Descriptions and Instructions

The purpose of the Erie High School Education Foundation Scholarship is to help current Erie High School seniors and alumni successfully achieve their dreams of post-secondary education and a better life. EHSEF recognizes that some students face unique challenges, and we consider not only where students are currently in their academic achievements but what they have overcome.  

 

DO NOT BEGIN THE APPLICATION UNTIL YOU HAVE ALL THE REQUIRED MATERIALS:      

You must provide your current contact information for yourself and a parent/guardian, official or unofficial transcripts, one current (within one year) letter of recommendation on letterhead and signed by the recommender, a current resume, and a prepared essay (prompts listed below).

 

Scholarship Types and Essay Prompts:

EHSEF offers scholarships for specific areas of study for current EHS seniors and alumni. Students may apply for more than one scholarship. A separate essay is required for each scholarship type.

Erie High School Education Foundation Scholarship: For graduating EHS seniors. 

Attach an essay (approximately 1-2 typed pages) fully responding to the following: EHSEF recognizes students who have dreams, drive, and determination.  Please describe your educational and career goals.  What experiences and personal characteristics have contributed to your goals/dreams, and what steps will you be taking toward achieving these goals?  How have you, during your high school career, demonstrated your drive and determination to achieve these dreams?  Optional element in your essay:   If you have a unique situation you’d like the committee to take into consideration, please explain.   

Alumni Scholarship: For college students who graduated from EHS prior to 2023

Attach an essay (approximately 1-2 typed pages) fully responding to the following: EHSEF recognizes students who have dreams, drive, and determination.  Please describe your current status, including year in college, college(s) attended, major, minor, and graduation year from EHS.  Also, describe your progress in reaching your educational and career goals.  What experiences and personal characteristics have contributed to your progress and what further steps will you be taking toward achieving these goals?  In your post-high school career, how have you demonstrated your drive and determination to achieve these dreams?  Optional element in your essay:   If you have a unique situation you’d like the committee to take into consideration, please explain.  

 

Lifetime Erie Student Scholarship: For graduating EHS seniors who attended Erie feeder schools all of grades 1-12

Attach an essay (approximately 1-2 typed pages) responding to the following: How has being an "Erie Lifetimer" affected your life? 

 

Tradesman Scholarship: For graduating EHS seniors or EHS alumni who are pursuing training (college, trade school, apprenticeship, etc) in the skilled trades. A tradesman is defined as a skilled manual worker in a particular field, who has a high degree of skill with both practical/hands-on and theoretical knowledge of their trade. This pertains to traditional fields such as mechanic, electrician, carpenter, welder, machinist, mason, pipefitter, cabinetmaker, jeweler, plumber, blacksmith, gunsmith, painter, barber/beautician, etc…. Please contact the committee if you are unsure if you qualify for a Tradesman scholarship.  

Attach an essay (approximately 1-2 typed pages) responding to the following: Describe why you have chosen this particular trade, your interest in it, and your plans for your work future. You may include anyone who sparked your interest, family ties, or a personal account of how you became interested in this field. Optional element in your essay:   If you have a unique situation you’d like the committee to take into consideration, please explain.   

 

Child of a Disabled American Veteran: For graduating EHS seniors or EHS alumni whose parent is a Disabled American Veteran. 

Attach an essay (approximately 1-2 typed pages) responding to the following: EHSEF recognizes students who have dreams, drive, and determination.  Please describe your educational and career goals.  What experiences and personal characteristics have contributed to your goals/dreams and what steps will you be taking toward achieving these goals?  How has being the child of a disabled veteran impacted your dreams, drive, and determination?  

If you have unique circumstances, not covered by the scholarships listed, please contact the Erie High School Education Foundation as we will consider supporting your academic or tradesman pursuits. 

*Candidates may be interviewed and scholarships will be approved by the governing board of the Erie High School Education Foundation.

**Either submit this digital application or return the paper version of the application to the office of Mr. Stecina at Erie High High School by 2:00 p.m. on February 1st, 2023. Late, incomplete or unsigned applications will not be considered.

***The EHS Education Foundation Scholarship Selection Committee consists of current EHS Student Advisors to the Board, Community Board Members and EHS Administrators.
